The searches were undertaken as per the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), the federal agency said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p><!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=toppotime:1-->The premises of Chowgule and Company Private Limited (<a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/ccpl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CCPL<\/a>), <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/chowgule-steamship-limited\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chowgule Steamship Limited<\/a> (CSL), <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/p-p-mahatme-and-company\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">P P Mahatme and Company<\/a>, seven residential premises of members of the Chowgule family, their group CA Pradip Mahatme, ex-MD and CFO of CSL Mangesh Sawant in Goa and Mumbai were covered during the searches. <\/p>\n<p>The agency claimed the action was based on &#8220;credible&#8221; information that the said entities created various <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/offshore-structures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">offshore structures<\/a> in which USD 228 million was &#8220;diverted&#8221; from <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/indian-companies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indian companies<\/a> over the years by routing the funds through multiple foreign subsidiaries and step-down subsidiaries based in Guernsey, UK and the Marshall Islands. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Incriminating documents and digital devices were seized during the searches,&#8221; the ED said.<!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=botpotime:1--><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/india\/ed-searches-goa-based-chowgule-group-linked-persons-in-fema-probe\/articleshow\/111517934.cms\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Friday said it has searched the premises of the Goa-headquartered Chowgule Group and linked entities as part of a foreign exchange violation investigation against them.
