This amendment aims to require that key information be displayed on pre-packaged items weighing over 25 kg or measuring more than 25 litres when sold in retail markets, PTI reported. <\/p>\n<p><!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=toppotime:1-->Currently, these bulk packages are exempt from showing essential details like maximum retail price (<a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/mrp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MRP<\/a>), best before date, manufacturer details, and country of origin.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry highlighted the issue, stating, &#8220;It is observed that packaged commodities above 25 kg are also available in the market for retail sale, which is not as per the intention to make all declarations on pre-packaged commodities meant for retail sale.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Under the new proposal, manufacturers, packers, and importers will need to include comprehensive labels on all pre-packaged goods intended for retail, regardless of size. This change aims to provide clarity for the industry and help consumers make informed decisions.<\/p>\n<p><a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/public-comments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Public comments<\/a> on this proposal are invited until July 29. However, the proposed rules will not apply to packaged goods meant for industrial or institutional consumers.<\/p>\n<p>This move is in response to the growing presence of bulk pre-packaged items in retail markets.
