The Supreme Court on Thursday while hearing pleas related to NEET-UG 2024<\/a> controversy said that re-examination can be done only if it is concrete that the entire test was affected, while noting that the case has social ramifications.<\/p>\n

“Re-examination has to be on concrete footing that the sanctity of the entire test was affected,” CJI DY Chandrachud said as the bench heard a clutch of pleas related to the controversy-ridden medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024.<\/p>\n

On the issue of the ongoing probe, the bench said, “The CBI<\/a> probe is on. If what the CBI has told us is revealed, it will affect the investigation<\/a> and people will become wise.”<\/p>\n

The hearing is underway.<\/p>\n

The top court on July 11 adjourned the hearing on the pleas regarding NEET-UG 2024 until July 18, awaiting responses from the Centre<\/a> and the NTA<\/a>. These pleas include requests for the exam’s cancellation, a re-test, and an investigation into alleged malpractices. <\/p>\n

The bench comprising CJI Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra noted it had received a status report from the CBI on the probe into these irregularities<\/a>. In an additional affidavit filed last week, the Centre reported that data analytics conducted by IIT-Madras on NEET-UG 2024 results found no evidence of mass malpractice or localized candidates scoring abnormally high marks.While hearing the pleas on July 8, the top court observed that the sanctity of NEET-UG 2024 had been “breached.” The bench indicated that a re-test might be ordered if the entire process was compromised and requested details from the NTA and the CBI, including the timing and manner of the alleged paper leak, as well as the number of wrongdoers, to understand the extent of the irregularities claimed by the petitioners. Over 23.33 lakh students took the test on May 5 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 cities overseas.
