Guwahati: The Arunachal Pradesh government<\/a> on Friday tabled a Bill<\/a> in the Assembly to curb irregularities and the use of unfair means<\/a> in various public examinations<\/a> in the state.<\/p>\n

The Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination<\/a> (Measures to Prevent Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024 has strict provisions for punishment like imprisonment and penalties<\/a>, debarring of candidates from appearing in recruitment examinations as well as attachment and confiscation of property.<\/p>\n

The Bill has a provision for special courts for the speedy trial of such offences.
It incorporates stringent penalties and imprisonment with the imposition of a fine of up to Rs 1 crore.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that it is a very good initiative to curb the malpractice of paper leaks<\/a> during exams.<\/p>\n

He said that once the bill becomes an Act it will ensure a free and fair selection process for all posts under the Arunachal Pradesh<\/a> government and detect the malpractices.<\/p>\n

The state was rocked by the leak of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) question paper in 2022.<\/p>\n

The Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate are probing the question paper leak, which happened ahead of a written examination for recruitment to the post of Assistant Engineer (Civil) conducted by the APPSC on August 26-27 in 2022.<\/p>\n

Former Union Minister and sitting BJP MLA Ninong Ering on Friday expressed concern over the under-construction mega dam by China near Arunachal Pradesh, and urged the state government to take up the issue with the Centre. <\/p>\n

Participating in the motion of thanks to the governor’s address in the assembly, Ering, told the House that the dam might pose the threat of a flood-like situation in Arunachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only India, the construction of the dam might also affect Bangladesh,\u201d said Ering, who was elected to the House from the Pasighat West assembly seat in East Siang district.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cPeople cannot trust China. We never know what they can do. They may either divert the entire river flow drying up Arunachal\u2019s Siang district or release water all of a sudden causing unprecedented floods and havoc downstream.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ering suggested that it was high time for a proper water treaty with the neighbouring country to protect the downstream section and flood plains of the state and other downstream states of the country in general.<\/p>\n

\u201cHydropower is Arunachal Pradesh\u2019s key resource, and it would help the country to a great extent in fulfilling energy security,\u201d the veteran politician said.<\/p>\n

According to various reports, China is building a mega dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo river in Medog, near the international border.<\/p>\n

Tsangpo River is known as Siang in Arunachal Pradesh and Brahmaputra in Assam and Jamuna in Bangladesh, and it flows through the neighbouring country (Bangladesh) before joining the Bay of Bengal.
