Rains lash Delhi and surrounding areas in pleasant surprise. Check IMD’s weather forecast
In a surprise turn of events, Delhi experienced scattered rainfall, offering a welcome relief from the relentless heat. This evening, both Delhi and its surrounding areas were treated to rain showers and thunderstorms. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi and its surrounding areas will see scattered rains and thunderstorms over the next few days.

An intense Western Disturbance, manifested as a cyclonic circulation, hovers over Iran, accompanied by a trough aloft in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies, according to IMD. Concurrently, a high influx of moisture from the Arabian Sea is expected to inundate Northwest India from April 13th to 15th. Various atmospheric phenomena, including cyclonic circulations over south Rajasthan and adjoining north Gujarat, and over the Comorin area, are further shaping the weather patterns.

More rains forecast

Under the influence of these systems, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, coupled with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (ranging from 30 to 40 kmph), is anticipated over Madhya Pradesh on April 13th and 14th. Similar conditions are forecasted over West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan from April 13th to 15th.

Additionally, there’s a projection for fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall or snowfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, across Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during April 13th to 15th. Isolated hailstorms are expected over certain regions on specific dates, with isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh on April 14th and 15th.

Furthermore, a gradual decrease in temperatures by 2-4°C is anticipated over Northwest India in the next two days, with no significant fluctuations thereafter.

Heat wave warning

However, warnings have been issued for hot and humid weather conditions persisting over various regions for the next few days. These include hot and humid weather over Kerala, Mahe, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Gujarat, Coastal Karnataka, and Gangetic West Bengal. Additionally, heat wave conditions are likely over Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, including Yanam, from April 15th to 17th.
