An explosion at a firecracker factory near Tamil Nadu‘s Sivakasi claimed seven lives, including five women, on Thursday.
The blast took place in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district, a hotspot for firecracker manufacture and witness to many similar incidents over the years.
Earlier this year, in February, 10 people died in Vembakkottai block’s Ramuthevanpatti when employees of a firecracker factory were mixing chemicals for fancy crackers.
A similar accident claimed 14 lives in October of last year in one of the worst tragedies in recent times, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announcing a solatium of ₹3 lakh for each of the victims’ families.
