Rain disrupts daily life in Telangana

Rainstorms battered Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana on Thursday evening, upsetting normal life. After the rain, a “naala” (drain) slab broke at Banjara Hills in the city, which caused some two-wheelers to behed away.

Waterlogging, traffic snarls

The rainfall led to waterlogging on the roads at some places in the city and traffic snarls. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Vijaya Laxmi R Gadwal visited Uday Nagar in Banjara Hills where slab of the ‘naala’ broke, sources were quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Yousufguda in the city received the highest amount of rainfall of 51.3 mm, followed by 48 mm at Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS). GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose asked the officials to alert field personnel and to see that measures to drain out water from the roads are taken.

In a respite from the sweltering heat, Chennai and its nearby districts received light to moderate showers on Thursday, and the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in parts of southern and western Tamil Nadu till May 20.

The clash of the Indian Premier League 2024 between SunRisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was abandoned due to the rain. With the match having been called off, SRH qualified for the IPL playoffs. SunRisers Hyderabad have entered playoffs for the first time after 2016. They won the tournament that year.
