Here are certain dos and don’ts that we should go by in order to keep safe as the day approaching when the storm is expected to impact the shores of West Bengal and Bangladesh approaches.
Guidelines for what to do and not do when indoors:
1. Turn off the gas and electricity mains to reduce the risk of gas leaks and electrical fires, which can occur during cyclones.
2. We should leave the house and find a safer location if it becomes unsafe or has the potential to collapse.
3. Shut windows and doors to protect yourself from high winds.
4. Alerts regarding evacuation, the most recent weather forecasts, safety guidelines, and health advisories should all be kept in mind.
5. Make sure you drink safe water by boiling it or after purification to prevent waterborne illnesses.
Guidelines for what to do and not do when outdoors:
1. Be wary of broken electric poles, cables, and other sharp objects that can cause harm or electrocution, and stay out of buildings until the authorities have pronounced them safe.
2. It is advisable to locate shade as soon as possible when we are outside. On the other hand, we shouldn’t hide beneath structures where there is a chance of falls.
3. We must protect ourselves from dust storms and flying debris.
Post-Cyclone steps to follow:
1. Don’t go home until the authorities have evaluated the area and declared it safe.
2. By obtaining the required vaccines and seeking medical attention right away, you can stop the spread of vector- and waterborne-borne illnesses.
3. Avoid anything like loose wires that could still be carrying electrical currents after the storm has passed.
