2020 Delhi riots: No bail for Umar Khalid
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of former JNU student Umar Khalid who is accused in the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 northeast Delhi communal riots. Khalid has been booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He has been behind bars since September 2020 waiting for his trial under the UAPA for his alleged involvement in a larger conspiracy leading to Delhi riots in February 2020.

Additional Sessions Judge in Karkardooma Court, Sameer Bajpai rejected the second regular bail plea filed by Khalid. The second bail plea was filed by Khalid after he withdrew his plea seeking bail from the Supreme Court. He has challenged the Delhi High Court decision of denying him bail in October 2022. His first regular bail plea was dismissed in March 2022, by the trail court.
