Chirag Jain, connected to the incident, shared with The Print that their guru Sanjeev was troubled by the idea of goats being slaughtered during Bakri Eid and wanted to do something about it. On June 15, a team of 25 people disguised themselves as Muslims and visited markets in old Delhi like Jama Masjid and Meena Bazar.
Vivek Jain explained to The Print that they posed as Muslims to avoid paying higher prices, securing all the goats for an average of Rs 10,000 each after tough bargaining. The rescued goats were taken to Naya Jain Mandir in Dharampur area for safety.
Bakri Eid is a significant Muslim festival involving goat sacrifice.
There have been numerous occasions where events sparked discussions about animal rights and brought criticism to specific practices. Peta, an organisation dedicated to animal rights, suggested that Muslims explore vegan alternatives instead of sacrificing animals during the festival.
In a blog post during the festival, Peta said, “Animal sacrifice is bad for everyone: It normalises killing and desensitises children to violence against animals.”
