Heatwave in Kashmir: Primary schools closed till July 30
The Kashmir divisional administration announced the suspension of classes for primary-level students in government and private schools till July 30 due to a persistent heatwave. This decision was issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir V K Bidhuri, who stated that students would not attend school, but all teaching and non-teaching staff are still required to report to their duties.“In view of the persistent heat wave prevailing in the valley, classwork for students up to the primary level in both government and recognized private schools shall remain suspended on 29th and 30th July 2024,” Bidhuri’s order read.

“However, all teaching and non-teaching staff shall continue to attend to their duties as usual,” the official statement added.

A resident of Anantnag told ANI about the rising temperatures, attributing it to global warming. “This year it’s been very hot… Here it’s been 33 recently; we got beaten up this year due to heat. Children and women can’t come out due to the heat. I think there should be another summer vacation. Because of global warming, people move to streams and ponds for relief,” he said.
