
Lakshya Sen has failed to etch history. The 22-year-old Indian star had the opportunity to be the first male badminton player to win an Olympic medal when he was up against his Malaysian opponent Lee Zii Jia in the Bronze medal match and even took the lead by winning the opening game but that was not to be as he went on to lose successive games 16-21, 11-2. Sen had earlier lost the semifinal clash against the Danish Viktor Axelsen after an aggressive game play to begin with.

In the semifinal match where he entered as the underdog, he dominated the majority of the opening game and was even on games point but he went on to lose in straight games. In the second game too, he was 7-0 up at one stage but went on to lose the match 20-22, 14-21.
Lakshya Sen opponent’s in the bronze medal match Lee Zii Jia mi, however, might have lost the opening game but came back from behind to register a dramatic win.
