SC dismisses NEET-PG plea seeking test postponement
The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test postgraduate examination (NEET-PG). The exam is set to be held on Sunday (August 11).

A bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, clarified that it would not jeopardise the career of two lakh students (who are slated to appear for the examination) at the behest of five petitioners (who approached SC).

“As a matter of principle, we will not reschedule. There are two lakh students and four lakh parents who will weep over the weekend. We cannot put the careers of so many candidates at risk just because of these petitioners,” the bench verbally remarked.

The plea, filed by one Vishal Soren, argued that candidates are facing difficulties in reaching their examination centres since they have been allocated centres in cities which are inconvenient for them to reach.

The plea had further contended that allocation of test cities was made on July 31 and designated centres were declared on Thursday. Thus, the petitioner has submitted that the candidates are left with very little time to travel to their respective centres for the examination on August 11.
