Vinesh Phogat’s Appeal Verdict Delayed, CAS Defers Deadline To August 11

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has delayed its verdict on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal, extending the decision deadline to August 11. Vinesh had contested her disqualification from the gold medal bout in the women’s 50kg event at the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being overweight. The final decision on her request for a joint-silver medal will now be awaited until August 11.

The CAS has extended the deadline to 6:00 PM on August 11, 2024, for Sole Arbitrator Dr. Annabelle Bennett to deliver a decision on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against United World Wrestling and the International Olympic Committee.

“The ad hoc division of CAS has extended time till 6-00 p.m. on August 11, 2024, for the Sole Abritator Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee to issue a decision,” an official International Olympics Committee (IOC) statement reads.
