Vinesh Phogat CAS Verdict News Verdict Highlights: Decision On Wrestler’s Plea Deferred Again

Vinesh Phogat CAS Hearing Verdict Live Updates: The Indian sporting ecosystem is awaiting the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification at the Paris Olympics 2024. Notably, Vinesh Phogat had assured India of a silver medal at the Paris Summer Games by storming into the finals but was disqualified on the morning of the gold medal bout after she was found to have been 100 grams overweight at the time of the weigh in.

In a formal appeal filed at the CAS, Phogat has demanded that she be awarded a joint silver medal along with Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who, had lost to Vinesh but after the Indian wrestler’s disqualification made her way to the gold medal bout. The morning after her heart-breaking disqualification which snatched an assured medal away from India, Vinesh Phogat announced her retiremenet from international wrestling. She said that she won’t be able to continue and said that she had lost.

Harish Salve agreed to represent Vinesh Phogat in this case and given his track record, all is not lost for India and Vinesh Phogat as there remains a glimmer of hope that her plea gets accepted and she could be awarded the medal, a decision that could change the way the sport is played going forward.

Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat CAS Verdict is expected to come out today before 09:30 PM (IST) with Harish Salve expected to brief the media at the aforementioned time. As far as India’s campaign at Paris Olympics is concerned, they bagged six medals in the French capital with five bronze medals and a silver, implying six medals for the Indian contingent. If CAS rules in CAS’s favour, it would take India’s tally to 7 which will be their joint-best with India having bagged as many medals in Tokyo as well. Although on that occasion, India had a gold medal with Neeraj Chopra bagging managing a historical feat. Neeraj clinched the silver medal in Paris.
