Zaheer Khan At LSG: Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants have today shared a post on their official ‘X’ account which has now sparked a huge debate, as the post drops in a massive of appointment of Zaheer Khan as their mentor. Zaheer Khan is one of the most iconic bowlers in the history of Indian cricket and is well-remembered for his heroics in the 2011 ODI World Cup, which India won, thereby, ending the nation’s 28-year wait for an ODI World Cup triumph.

In the post shared by LSG, four players are being depicted, Andrew Strauss; Matthew Hayden; Kumar Sangakkara; and Greane Smith. Cricket fans have a term called ‘bunny’ which refers to a scenario where the bowler has the upperhand on a batsman in head-to-head battles, and in this case, all the four greats above (all left-handed) have fell prey to the might of Zaheer Khan.

Zaheer Khan is an IPL veteran too, having represented Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Bengaluru), Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) over a period of 9 years. After his retirement from IPL post 2017 season, the 2011 World Cup winner joined Mumbai Indians as their director of cricket, and later became their head of global development until 2022.

The 45-year-old had an impressive IPL career, as he played 100 matches, scalping 102 wickets at an average of 27.27, and an economy rate of 7.59.

During his tenure at MI, teh franchise won two IPL titles, which came in consecutive seasons (2019, 2020), and the left-arm fast bowler is extremely active in modern cricket, either via commentary panel, or during the experts’ session on on-air shows.

Zaheer Khan will be filling in the shoes of Gautam Gambhir, who left the side as their mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders before the 2024 season, where the latter ended up winning his first-ever IPL as mentor.
