In a major announcement on Wednesday, the Centre said that senior citizens aged 70 and above will now be included in the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana health insurance scheme. While making the announcement, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said nearly 4.5 crore families, including 6 crore senior citizens, will be covered under the scheme. The move aims to provide free treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh, he added.
