The agency has alleged that there was “dereliction of duty” from some police officers. The investigators said a few police officers tried to misguide them. It has also alleged tampering of evidence.
At the ACJM court on Sunday, the CBI highlighted the possibility of a larger conspiracy behind the crime. CBI sources said it had reasons to believe that former principal of the medical college, Sandip Ghosh, was in touch with officials of Kolkata Police, who might have helped him in destroying evidence.
The agency is also investigating the case diary to find discrepancies, pointing at intentional efforts of a cover-up.
Kolkata Police has, however, defended itself telling SC the crime scene was never compromised. It has also submitted a detailed timeline of August 9 and said every legal step was taken on time. CBI officers feel interrogation of officers linked to the case would provide further leads.
