A 29-year-old man has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly stealing about 50 laptops worth nearly Rs 22 lakh. According to police, the man, identified as Murugesh M, incurred losses of Rs 25 lakh from unsuccessful tomato farming and a cyber centre business, which reportedly led him to commit the thefts.

Murugesh, a BCA graduate from Hosur in Tamil Nadu, worked as a system administrator at a multimedia firm in Whitefield, Bengaluru. He had access to the company’s inventory and reportedly confessed to stealing the laptops over time. Police sources stated that he sold the stolen laptops to a gadgets repair shop in Hosur.

The company discovered the missing laptops after Murugesh stopped attending work on August 22. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the company officials identified his involvement and lodged a police complaint. Police then registered a case and initiated an investigation. Murugesh was apprehended from a cinema house in Hosur and brought to Bengaluru.

At the time of arrest, police recovered five laptops from Murugesh. “The estimated value of stolen laptops is said to be Rs 22 lakh, and they have been recovered,” a police official stated. Murugesh confessed to selling the remaining 45 laptops. He is currently in judicial custody, police sources added.
