Speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave in New Delhi, Jaishankar explained that just like nuclear weapons once, AI is now the next big thing and countries should be ready to deal with its effects on the world.
“AI is probably going to be the most profound factor in global ecosystem. Artificial intelligence is just as dangerous for the world as nuclear weapons were once,” said the EAM.
Jaishankar was in conversation with NK Singh, Chairman, 15th Finance Commission of India when he made the comments at the 2024 edition of the KEC.
When asked about the United Nations and its role in the current world, the EAM had some sharp statements to make on the global peace keeping body.
Using an economic metaphor, Dr Jaishankar explained that the United Nations is old and not really evolving with current times. “Since this is an economic conference, let me explain in terms of business. The United Nations like a very old business, it is taking up a lot of space but not understanding the changing rules of the world today. While there are start ups in business world today, the UN must make its moves accordingly,” said Jaishankar.
