Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah offers help to build tech sector in Maldives
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday offered help to Maldives to grow the information technology (IT) industry there.

The chief minister welcomed Maldives president Mohamed Muizzu and his wife Sajidha Mohamed in Bengaluru. The CM conveyed to Muizzu that he had been told that Maldives was interested in having partnerships with Bengaluru’s leading IT industries.

“We are known as the Silicon Valley of India and have developed an ecosystem for start-ups, Artificial Intelligence, global capacity building centres as well as an innovation hub. We will be very happy to facilitate the growth of IT industry in Maldives,” he said.

Siddaramaiah also said Karnataka would be happy to have trade ties with Maldives to promote the marketing of the state’s handicrafts and handlooms to reach out to large number of tourists visiting Maldives. “Our Tourism tagline is – “One State, Many Worlds”. Apart from almost 300-km of coastline, we have the world’s second largest Shola Forest hosting Tiger and Bird Sanctuaries. We look forward to a partnership with Maldives to promote Educational and Cultural Exchange.”

On Monday, Muizzu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and both leaders reviewed the bilateral ties between the two countries. Sajidha Mohamed, Siddaramaiah said, studied in Bengaluru.Karnataka’s capital is home to thousands of startups and global technology companies including the homegrown Infosys and Wipro and accounts for about a third of India’s software exports.
