Jammu & Kashmir UT’s first assembly session begins today

Srinagar: Former minister Sunil Sharma has been elected leader of the J&K BJP legislature party ahead of the first assembly session in the Union Territory starting November 4.

Sharma won the recent assembly elections from Padder Nagseni constituency of Kishtwar district, a newly-formed constituency.

“We will be a healthy Opposition in the assembly. We will strive to put all our efforts in the right direction and ensure that the government doesn’t trample upon the rights of the people,” said Sharma, soon after the BJP meeting concluded here in Srinagar. The meeting was led by Union minister Pralhad Joshi and BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh.

The central BJP leadership has also appointed Sat Paul Sharma as head of J&K BJP, a post he held between 2015 and 2018.

Meanwhile, NC, Congress and other parties held meetings in Srinagar to prepare for the first assembly session in the UT. NC and Congress also held a joint meeting to discuss strategy and prepare notes for the first assembly session.
