The Manipur government on Monday night imposed an indefinite curfew across the entire Jiribam district, effective immediately.

This measure has been implemented to prevent potential disturbances and ensure the maintenance of law and order.

With the move, assembly and movement of more than five people outside their residence has been prohibited. Further, carrying firearms, stones, weapons, sharp edged objects of any kind would be an offence.

For events like marriage and funeral, a written permission is required from Superintendent of Police, Jiribam district.

Encounter in Jiribam, Manipur

As many as 11 suspected militants were killed in an encounter with CRPF in Jiribam area of Manipur on Monday. A security personnel was also critically injured in the gunfight, said officials.

This comes after armed militants torched several shops in the district. The militants fired several rounds around 2:30 pm towards Borobekra police station and proceeded towards Jakurador Karong and engaged in arson, officials.
The locality is situated close to Borobekra police station, on the premises of which a relief camp is also located.

Borobekra sub-division has witnessed multiple gun attacks and arson since violence broke out in June and is one of the worst affected areas in the district.

Tension had been prevailing in the district after a 31-year-old woman was killed during an attack at Zairon Hmar village by armed miscreants last week.
