The first attack took place late Thursday, with the injured dog receiving treatment. The second attack occurred on Friday night, and the dog later succumbed to its injuries at a local hospital. Despite the police investigation, the culprits have not yet been identified.
PETA India has urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation. “Those who abuse animals often move on to harming humans. For everyone’s safety, people must come forward with what they know about this case and report about cruelty to animals to the police,” Sunayana Basu, PETA India’s Cruelty Response Coordinator told PTI.
An FIR was filed at Welcome police station on Thursday following the attacks. PETA India has also called for psychiatric evaluations and counseling for those found guilty of animal cruelty, highlighting that such actions may reflect deeper psychological issues.
