Delhi Airport issues passenger advisory amid rising pollution


Delhi Airport on Tuesday issued a passenger advisory due to low visibility in the region due to fog and severe air pollution. The statement said that flight operations are currently normal, but asked passengers to confirm the updated status of their flights.

Delhi reported an AQI of 421 on Tuesday morning. AQI values in areas including Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, and Alipur ranged from 400 to 470, signifying hazardous air quality.

Meanwhile, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) classified the local air quality in the “Very Poor” category. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported the minimum temperature in Delhi as 5 degrees Celsius.

In response to alarming pollution levels in the capital, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has re-imposed Stage-IV (‘Severe+’) measures from the updated Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to combat the worsening air quality.

In a tweet, the CAQM announced, “Considering the rise in the AQI of Delhi owing to highly unfavourable meteorological conditions and absolute calm wind conditions, the CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP called for an emergency meeting.” Following this, the committee decided to impose Stage-IV measures across the entire National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect.
