The adjournment was followed by protests by MPs of the Opposition bloc.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present in the house at the time of the adjournement, and the House had just come in session when the chants by a defiant Opposition commenced.
The development comes as the INDIA bloc of MPs have decided to protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged remarks on BR Ambedkar, reports of which Shah refuted as Congress’ petty politics.
Following violent clashes during political protests, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had issued a ban on demonstrations by MPs and political parties at the gates of Parliament on Thursday.
“Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has issued clear directives that no political party, Member of Parliament, or group of MPs will be allowed to hold any dharna or demonstration at the gates of the Parliament House,” parliamentary sources confirmed. The move came after chaotic protests erupted within the Parliament premises, with both the BJP-led NDA and Congress-led INDIA bloc holding rival demonstrations over alleged insults to B.R. Ambedkar. The protests escalated into jostling and scuffles, resulting in two MPs sustaining injuries, while a woman MP accused Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, of intimidating her.
