IND vs AUS: Australia Post 474 In First Innings After Steve Smith’s 34th Century At MCG

Australia posted 474 runs in the first innings, securing a daunting lead over India on Day 2 of the ongoing India vs Australia Boxing Day Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 on December 27 (Friday) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Steve Smith was the chief architect of Australia’s first-innings dominance as he brought up his 34th Test hundred and 11th against India, scoring 140 runs off 197 balls.

Australia, after winning the toss got off to a good start as the 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas came to the pitch unabashed, taking the attack to the likes of Jasprit Bumrha, who has by far been the best bowler of the series. Konstas scored a brisk fifty on debut, ending up with a 65-ball 60 runs knock. Usman Khawaja also brought up a fifty, his first in the series. Marnus Labuschagne looked in good touch as well but threw away hsi wicket after a well-made 72 runs. However, it was Steve Smith, who cashed in on the good batting surface at the MCG, scoring 140 runs to guide Australia to a dominant position in the crucial match.

For India, Jasprit Bumrha was yet again their best bowler, claiming figures of 4-99 in 28.4 overs, with Ravindra Jadeja contriburing with 3-78.
