North India including the national capital will see a chilly New Year as the IMD has predicted a significant drop in minimum temperatures across several regions in coming days.

“Cold wave conditions in isolated pockets of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan,” said IMD’s daily bulletin.

Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions likely in a few pockets of Himachal Pradesh; cold wave conditions in isolated pockets of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan.
Ground Frost likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh.
Thunderstorm & lightning likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.01st January
Dense fog likely in isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura in night/morning hours.

Due to western disturbances, it is predicted scattered thunderstorm and lightning in the national capital on Friday and Saturday. Additionally, a yellow warning for fog has been issued throughout Delhi-NCR.

The predominant surface wind is expected to be from the northeast at a speed of less than 4 kmph during the morning hours, with smog or moderate fog likely in the morning, it said.
