Millions of Hindu devotees, mystics, holy men, and women gathered in northern Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh festival, which is said to be the largest religious congregation on earth. Nearly 400 million people, more than the population of the United States, are expected to participate in the festival between Jan.13 and Feb.26 for a series of ritual baths at the confluence of the Ganges, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Hindu faithful believe the holy dip will cleanse them of their past sins and end their process of reincarnation.
