A video showing passengers jumping over the fare collection gates at Jama Masjid metro station has gone viral, sparking reactions online. The incident took place on February 13 on the Violet Line of the Delhi Metro.

In the video, a large number of commuters can be seen bypassing the automated fare collection (AFC) gates by jumping over them. Many were also seen recording the act on their mobile phones.

Reacting to the video, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) clarified that there was a sudden increase in the number of passengers at the time.

“There was a temporary surge of passengers for a brief time on Thursday evening when some of them bypassed the AFC gates by jumping over them to exit,” said Anuj Dayal, DMRC’s principal executive director (corporate communications).

He added that security personnel and metro staff were present at the spot and handled the situation. “The situation was never out of control,” he said.According to DMRC, the act was a momentary reaction due to the sudden rush near the exit gates.
