GUJ Vs KER: Gujarat and Kerala are arguably producing the ‘Match of the Year’, as both sides are in a tightly-contested battle for a place in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Final.
It was the case until the fall of last wicket of Gujarat, as Kerala have now taken the all-decisive lead in the semi-final fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
With merely 2 runs required to equal the score, the match was placed at 50-50 for either sides, as Gujarat needed 3 runs to take the all-decisive lead, whereas, Kerala needed that one final breakthrough to put the game to bed.
Here’s How Kerala Has One Foot In Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Final
In Ranji Trophy, the rule states that the team who manages to take the ‘first innings lead’ in a knockout game will have the advantage, and thus, make their progression into the next round if the fixture ends in a draw.
The dramatic moment occured on the fourth delivery of Aditya Sarwate’s bowling in the 175th over, as his flighted delivery near the pads tempted Arzan Nagwaswalla to play a lofted shot, but his attempt ended up strucking the helmet of the fielder present at the short-leg region, and was eventually, caught by Sachin Baby, who was present at the slip region.
What followed later was jubilation in the Kerala camp, as they knew they have all but sealed their place in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, and just need to bat out remaining two sessions to officially confirm their progression.
While Kerala were celebrating, Arzan Nagwaswalla made a long walk on his way back to the pavilion, in what was a heartbreaking moment for the 27-year-old.
