Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will visit Moscow this week to review various facets of strategic partnership and prepare for various meetings between PM Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin this year including annual summit.

The visit has gained salience amid thaw in US-Russia ties which may open up additional economic opportunities for India as and when sanctions are lifted.

Russia on its part will seek clarification on prospective Indian defence exports to EU which Moscow fear might be reexported to Ukraine. India will try to ensure strong end user clause.

On the agenda of Misri’s visit will be expanding economic partnership across sectors including energy, connectivity, Arctic and Far East Russia. Defence ties will also be on agenda

While Putin will be in India for the annual summit, the two leaders are expected to meet in Brazil and China on the sidelines of BRICS and SCO summits respectively.
