However, history does not reckon a positive news for India, as the side has previously went on to lose the final against the side they earlier defeated in the same tournament.

The pattern has been followed since 2017, when India thrashed Pakistan in the group stage of the ICC Champions Trophy, before going on to lose the Final at the hands of same opponents, in a humiliating fashion.

In the 2019 ODI World Cup, India’s match with New Zealand during the group stages was abandoned due to rain, and in the semi-final stage, it was the Kiwis who handed India a heart-breaking defeat, a fixture that proved to be the final international match of the all-time great — Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

In the 2023 ODI World Cup, India and Australia played out a thriller at Chennai, where KL Rahul’s iconic unbeaten 97 inspired the hosts to a 6-wicket win.

However, in the Final, on November 19, India suffered arguably their biggest heartbreak in cricket history, by losing to Australia in a one-sided fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Will NZ Beat India In CT 2025 Final?

Going by the current form of the Indian side, and their ODI record at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, it looks highly unlikely for them to lose.

However, with the above-mentioned facts, history might repeat itself, and New Zealand may cause one of the biggest upsets ever seen in cricket.

This will be India’s 5th ICC Champions Trophy Final, more than any other side ever managed.
