
The countdown to Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is nearing its end, with the much-anticipated tournament set to begin on March 22.
This season, nine out of ten franchises have placed their trust in Indian captains, with Pat Cummins being the only overseas player leading a team – Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rishabh Pant, the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, will captain Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), while Shreyas Iyer takes the reins for Punjab Kings (PBKS). Ajinkya Rahane will lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) continue under Sanju Samson.
Chennai Super Kings will play under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership, while Delhi Capitals have made a bold move by appointing Axar Patel as captain. Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar has been given the responsibility of leading Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

For IPL 2025, the 10 teams have been divided into two groups:
Group A: Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals.
Group B: Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants.

In IPL 2025, every side will participate in 14 league-stage matches, facing opponents from their group twice, along with select inter-group fixtures.
Kolkata and Hyderabad will host the playoffs (knockout stage). Qualifier 1 will take place on May 20 in Hyderabad after which the eliminator will be played on May 21. Kolkata’s Eden Gardens will be the host of second Qualifier on May 23, while IPL 2025 final is scheduled for May 25, also in Kolkata.
