The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), the biggest T20 tournament in the world, begins on Saturday (March 22) onwards. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are eager to make a strong comeback after last season’s disappointment.
Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2025 campaign kicks off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23, but they will be without two key players-captain Hardik Pandya and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Hardik’s suspension & Bumrah’s absence
Premier all-rounder Hardik Pandya will miss MI’s opening match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to a one-game suspension for slow over-rate. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is still recovering from injury and is expected to sit out the initial matches of the season.
Mumbai Indians’ expected batting order
Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton are likely to open the innings.
Suryakumar Yadav, who will captain MI in Hardik’s absence, is set to bat at No. 3.
Young star Tilak Verma is expected to follow at No. 4.
Robin Minj and Naman Dheer may get a chance in the middle order.
Arjun Tendulkar might get a chance to play as an all-rounder, contribute with both bat and ball.
Boult to lead MI’s pace attack in Bumrah’s absence
With Bumrah sidelined, Trent Boult will lead Mumbai’s pace attack, supported by Deepak Chahar. The spin department will be handled by Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mitchell Santner.
Mumbai Indians’ probable XI vs CSK: Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Tilak Verma, Robin Minj, Naman Dheer, Arjun Tendulkar, Mitchell Santner, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult.
