KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane has achieved a unique milestone, becoming the first Indian cricketer to captain three different IPL franchises.
Rahane’s captaincy journey in IPL spans: Rising Pune Supergiants (1 match), Rajasthan Royals (24 matches), Kolkata Knight Riders (ongoing).
With this milestone, Ajinkya Rahane joins an exclusive group of players who have captained three IPL teams, including: Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Steve Smith.
Players to captain three teams in IPL: Kumar Sangakkara – Punjab Kings (13), Deccan Chargers (25), Sunrisers Hyderabad (9), Mahela Jayawardene – Punjab Kings (1), Kochi Tuskers Kerala (13), Delhi Capitals (16) and Steve Smith – Pune Warriors India (1), Rising Pune Super Giants (15), Rajasthan Royals (27).
Shreyas Iyer is set to become the next player to achieve this feat when he leads Punjab Kings, adding to his previous captaincy roles with Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Iyer, set to captain Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, has previously led Delhi Capitals in 41 matches and Kolkata in 29 matches.
