Here’s What Both Captains Said During Toss
Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Captain):
“We are going to bowl first. With the dew coming in later and keeping that factor in mind, we are going to bowl first. The dew is a big factor here. There is not much assistance to the spinners as seen here in the past. With the dew coming in, big targets have been chased here.”
“The preparation was amazing. We have covered all the bases. We have a very good bowling attack. That’s what was our concern last year. We have a good pace battery. We are fortunate to play in the biggest stadium in the world. Looking forward to this game. We are going with the four fast bowlers and two spinners.”
Shreyas lyer (Punjab Kings Captain):
“I would have loved to bowl as well considering the ball hasn’t pitched on the wicket yet. I am always someone who loves to chase and see the challenge and have a decent idea about what a decent score would be on the board. Based on that I would have bowled first as well.”
“[Adapting in a new team and leadership] It’s obviously challenging but there are a lot of similar faces around in the dressing room. I have worked with Ricky in the past so I’ve got a fair idea about what’s in his mind. It’s all about coming here and replicating what we have done in the practice. To be honest, the more synergy and unity you have running around the team, the easier it gets.”
“[On the squad] We’ve got a lot of allrounders in the team. We were actually having a headache on what team to play because we are spoilt for choice. So many combinations that could fit in. We have got the best team forward right now and I hope that we click.”
“[Combination] Since we are batting first we have only one spinner and the others are allrounders. We are going with 3 seamers.”
