CSK won the toss and opted to bowl first in Guwahati. The decision worked well in the first over itself, as Khaleel Ahmed dismissed the highly-dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal for 4.
What followed later was pure mayhem from Nitish Rana, as he smashed IPL 2025’s second-fastest fifty. Sanju Samson took a backseat, as his innings lasted 16 balls, scoring 20 runs.
Stand-in skipper Riyan Parag and Nitish Rana put up 37 runs for the 3rd wicket, but the wicket of the latter announced a big batting collapse of Rajasthan Royals, who were reduced from 124/2 to 182/9 in their 20 overs.
In reply, Jofra Archer showed a glimpse of his older days, as the English pacer wrecked havoc in the top-order of CSK, by dismissing in-form Rachin Ravindra for a duck, and conceding just 13 runs in his 3 overs, which included a maiden.
Ruturaj Gaikwad showed fight with a gritty 63, but Wanindu Hasaranga’s wizard-act with the ball trembled CSK’s middle-order, as the Sri Lankan all-rounder picked up 4 wickets in his four overs.
MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja once again failed to deliver the goods in the last stagtes of the match, as CSK fell 6 runs short off their target.
