Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu: India’s first sea bridge and a must-visit scenic wonder – Pamban Bridge

The story of the Pamban Bridge dates back to 1914, when British engineers built the original structure. Designed as a cantilever bridge with a Scherzer Rolling Lift span, it was constructed to link Rameswaram Island with mainland India. In 2019, a new bridge project was approved, featuring a structure three metres taller than the original, enhancing sea connectivity.
