Jagdish Tytler confessed to killing 100 Sikhs during 1984 anti-Sikh riots, claims former DSGMC president

Former president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Manjit Singh GK, told a Delhi court that he received a pen drive in 2018 containing an alleged confession by Congress leader Jagdish Tytler about his role in the killing of 100 Sikhs during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The court is hearing a case related to the murder of three Sikhs at Pul Bangash Gurdwara in Delhi, in which Tytler is an accused.

Pen drive allegedly contains Tytler’s confession

Manjit Singh GK, who served as DSGMC president between 2013 and 2018, deposed before the special judge Jitendra Singh. He said he received the pen drive at his residence in an envelope in 2018. GK said he could not operate the pen drive himself, so it was played in the DSGMC office.

“In the said pen drive, there were revelations of accused Jagdish Tytler about the killing of 100 Sikhs through him,” said GK.

GK also told the court that in the video, Tytler allegedly spoke about getting judges appointed in the Delhi High Court and being promised the post of Delhi chief minister by the Congress high command. He further claimed that Tytler said his son had a partnership in a company with a Swiss bank account and that some of his friends had misappropriated ₹150 crore from him.

Witness identifies second person in video

GK told the court that the other person present with Tytler in the video was Ravinder Singh Chauhan. He said Chauhan “admitted” the “confession/revelation” made by Tytler in front of him, which were contained in the pen drive. GK added that Chauhan did not want his name to be revealed in the media but had assured he would appear before any investigating agency.

GK said he submitted the audio-video recording along with a letter to the concerned agencies. He said he did so so that justice may be served to the victims of the 1984 riots.

Statement recording paused due to illness

GK could not complete his statement as he was feeling unwell due to a kidney ailment. The court adjourned the examination, and the next hearing has been scheduled for April 21.

Additional testimony linked to witness from 2008

GK also told the court that in 2008, a man named Surinder Singh Granthi met him and said he was under pressure and afraid. GK alleged that Granthi had mentioned facing threats from Tytler. Granthi, who is now deceased, was the person who described the killing of one of the victims, Badal Singh, to his wife Lakhwinder Kaur.

Lakhwinder Kaur is a key witness in the case. She told the court in October last year that Granthi had met her in 2008 in Karkardooma Courts.

Voice confirmed by forensic report

Senior advocate HS Phoolka said, “Manjit Singh GK gave the content of pen drive in a CD to CBI, CBI sent it to CFSL, and CFSL identified it as the voice of Tytler.”

The case continues as the court considers evidence related to the killings at Pul Bangash Gurdwara on November 1, 1984.
