Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are industrially made products that often contain added fats, sugars, salts, and various additives like artificial colours, flavours, and preservatives to enhance taste and extend shelf life. Examples include processed meats like sausages, fizzy drinks, and packaged breads. While these foods have long been associated with health problems such as obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes, recent studies have also linked them to an increased risk of kidney disease.
