Several of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s films have been far bigger successes in China than India itself. This is why Aamir was recently honoured at the Macau Comedy Festival, which he attended with his girlfriend Gauri Spratt.
As seen in photos that have surfaced on X, Aamir and Gauri can be seen smiling on the stage at the festival in China. They’re accompanied by Chinese actors Shen Teng and Ma Li, who were also honoured at the festival. In one of the photos, all four of them made hearts with their hands as they greeted the audience. While Aamir was dressed in a black kurta-pyjama and had a black-golden shawl wrapped around his body, Gauri chose a floral sari for the occasion.

Macau Comedy Festival kicked off on April 9. As per GDToday, Aamir, Shen Teng and Ma Li will close the festival with a discussion on ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine.’ They will have “cross-cultural dialogue on the social impact and future of the comedy industry.” Aamir is a perfect fit for the panel as his 2009 comedy, Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, was a monster hit in China.

Aamir followed that up with another blockbuster at the Chinese box office in Rajkumar Hirani’s 2014 sci-fi comedy PK. However, Aamir’s biggest hits came a few years later with Nitesh Tiwari’s 2016 wrestling drama Dangal and Advait Chandan’s 2017 coming-of-age musical Secret Superstar. While the former earned $193 million, the latter made $109 million in China. Aamir is referred to as “Uncle Aamir” by Chinese filmgoers.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan introduced his girlfriend Gauri Spratt to the media ahead of his 60th birthday last month. He revealed that they have been together for over a year. “She is from Bengaluru, and we knew each other for 25 years. But we connected a year-and-half ago. She happened to be in Mumbai and we met accidentally, we kept in touch, and then it all happened organically,” the actor had said.
Gauri has a six-year-old son from a previous marriage. She now works with Aamir in his production house. Aamir was first married to producer Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002. They share two children — Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. In 2005, he married director Kiran Rao, but the couple separated in 2021. Despite their separation, they continue to co-parent their son, Azad.
