Waltz was expected to attend the India-US Forum, a platform hosted jointly by the Ananta Centre and India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The Forum facilitates strategic dialogue between American and Indian leaders across sectors, with the objective of shaping the future of the bilateral partnership through consultation and collaboration.
The reason for Waltz’s absence is not known. However, a source familiar with the matter said his visit had been “postponed.”
Last week, the Financial Times reported from Washington that Waltz has been navigating a politically sensitive phase following the ‘Signalgate’ episode. That controversy led to former US President Donald Trump removing key personnel from his administration.
Despite Waltz’s absence, the India-US Forum will proceed as planned. His visit would have overlapped with that of US Vice President J.D. Vance, who is scheduled to begin his four-day India trip on April 21.
