Seema Kapoor, who is the sister of veteran actor Annu Kapoor, was married to Om Puri for a very brief period of time. After having known each other for over a decade, they tied the knot in 1991, which ended in just 8 months. Seema was three months pregnant when Om Puri asked for a divorce and was having affair with Nandita, who he eventually married.
The chaos between the couple started when Seema found out about Om Puri’s love affair with Nandita within a few months of her marriage. While this caused a lot of fights between the two, Seema decided to walk out when three months pregnant thinking this might make Om realise his mistake, but that never happened. This made Seema’s brothers Annu Kapoor and Ranjit Kapoor extremely furious, who wanted to drag Puri to the Supreme Court to get justice to their sister.
Talking to Siddharth Kannan, Seema said, “I thought going away from him might make him miss me. So I came to my brother, but that assessment of mine was wrong. I told Annu Bhaiya, brother please don’t ask me for any details just book me a ticket to Jhalwar.”
A few days later, Seema’s train tickets were reserved and she went to her mother. With situation not getting any better, Seema’s family wanted to teach Om Puri a lesson. “My brother wanted to drag Om Puri to Supreme Court. My other brother was ready to sell all his properties, my sister-in-law wanted to sell all her jewellery to gather money to fight in the court”, said Seema.
She added, “Just two months after I went to Jhalwar, Puri sent a petition where he put allegations against me that he was not the father of the child I am pregnant with. He accused me of adultery. I cried so hard. I was shocked to see him put such allegations against me, because he was not a man who would talk ill about any women.”
After Puri’s accusations against Seema, Annu Kapoor and his friends got furious who provoked Seema to put domestic violence case against the actor. “But, I couldn’t do that because that was incorrect. I told my mother, ‘Maa, I can’t accuse him of such things, he never raised his hands on me.’ I didn’t want to make it a fuss because I was still hoping that things will get fine but it didn’t. Later, I told my mother that I don’t want to fight. I told her, ‘with fight, we can win property not people.’ Then I settled for divorce on mutual terms, and he paid me one-time alimony of Rs 6 lakh.”

Om Puri’s affair with Nandita had started soon after his wedding, but Seema was not aware of it. Once when the couple met American actor-dancer Patrick Swayze, he complimented her which led to a very suspicious reaction from Om Puri.
Seema said, “Patrick Swayze told Om, ‘Om, your wife’s face matches that of little Buddha’, by this time his affair with Nandita had begun. So as soon as he heard Patrick complimenting me, he quickly replied, ‘She is a tyrant’. I was not aware of their affair at that time, so I wondered the whole time why did he react like that.”
After divorcing Seema in 1991, Om Puri married author-journalist Nandita in 1993 and they have a son together. In 2013, they too divorced each other.
