After Aimee Lou Wood called out Saturday Night Live (SNL) for their ‘mean’ and ‘unfunny’ sketch on her, several celebrities including Georgia May Jagger, Jameela Jamil, and Cara Delevingne came out in her support. The White Lotus star had slammed the show after cast member Sarah Sherman impersonated her using exaggerated prosthetic teeth in a skit.
In multiple Instagram stories, Aimee criticised the sketch, writing, “I love being made fun of when it’s clever and in good spirits,” she wrote. “But there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way.”
Following her post, model and actor Cara Delevingne showed her support, writing on Instagram, “@aimeelouwood YOU ARE STUNNING, PERIOD.” Aimee’s sister, Emily Wood, also came out in her support. She wrote, “She is out here personifying the word POWERHOUSE. The admiration I have for this woman is nuts. Beyond comprehension. JUST like my feelings of deep, animalistic protectiveness over her.”
Actor and activist Jameela Jamil too backed Aimee and compared to her to the legendary actor Olivia Coleman. She wrote, “It’s the least interesting or memorable thing about this brilliant actor. Our next Olivia Coleman. Hilarious, deep, vulnerable, and relentlessly lovable.”
After Aimee’s public criticism, she revealed that the SNL makers had apologised to her. According to Daily Mail, she shared a distorted selfie focusing on her eyes and mouth, writing, “I’ve had apologies from SNL,” as reported by the outlet.
Aimee’s recently released show, The White Lotus Season 3, follows a group of guests at a luxury hotel. Taking inspiration from the series, the SNL sketch imagined US President Donald Trump and his top team spending time at a fictional hotel. At one point, Sarah Sherman, seen sporting big fake teeth, asked, “Fluoride? What’s that?” This didn’t sit well with Aimee, who pointed out on Instagram, “The whole joke was about fluoride… I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth.”
