Kesari 2 box office collection early estimate: Akshay Kumar has returned to the silver screen with Kesari 2, the spiritual sequel to his 2019 film Kesari. The film, also starring R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in lead roles, has only managed to earn Rs 5.46 crore on its release day as of 7:30 pm, according to early estimates by trade tracker Sacnilk.
Kesari 2 had about 3619 shows scheduled on Friday. The movie witnessed an overall occupancy of 16.22% on its release day. The morning shows witnessed an occupancy of 12.67%, whereas the afternoon shows saw a slight increase in the footfall with about 19.76% occupancy. Despite releasing on Good Friday, the film’s numbers don’t look as promising as its first part, which was released about six years ago.
Kesari, which followed the story of the Battle of Saragarhi, opened at Rs 21.06 crore. After running for about eight weeks, the Akshay Kumar starrer had earned a total of Rs 208.80 crore worldwide. That film too released in about 3600 screens in India and 600 screens abroad. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore.
Based on the book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, Kesari 2 explores the legal battle that followed the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on April 13, 1919. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film has received positive reviews.
The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, “Kesari 2, by Dharma Productions and Adar Poonawala, is a film of its time, for its time, unpacking a tragic chapter of our past with dollops of explanatory, patriotic fervour.”
