According to a statement issued by the Office of the Officer-in-Charge, Saikul Police Station, Kangpokpi District:
“In pursuance of the order dated March 25, 2025, from the Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, and as per the Supreme Court’s direction in SLP (Cril) No. 12831 of 2022, all arms license holders and arms dealers in Kangpokpi District are required to submit self-attested copies of their licenses along with the completed prescribed format to their nearest local police station on or before April 25, 2025, for verification. Non-compliance may lead to penalization and cancellation of the license.” The order further instructed: “Therefore, you are required to inform all gun license holders in your village to comply with the directive.”
The directive comes amid ongoing efforts to retrieve illegal and looted arms. As of March 6, approximately 1,000 weapons, including sophisticated arms and a large cache of ammunition, have been surrendered to security forces following an appeal made by Governor Anusuiya Uikey on February 20.
