“Incidents of violence have happened in two wards of Dhuliyan. Outsiders, with the help of some locals, are behind this. The conspiracy behind this will be unveiled,” Banerjee said, while addressing a programme in Midnapore. “I have promised to give ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased. We will take up their children’s educational responsibilities as discussed by our MPs who visited the affected families,” Banerjee said. She also assured to build new houses for the people under the Banglar Bari, the state’s housing scheme. Many houses were burnt and ransacked during the violence and people were displaced.
Meanwhile, six persons have been arrested on Monday night by West Bengal Police’s SIT from Odisha in connection with the arson and rioting in Jafrabad and Betbona villages.
Violence broke out in Murshidabad’s Suti and Samserganj where several houses were ransacked, police vehicles vandalised and houses set ablaze in connection with the protest over the Waqf (Amendment) Act. A father-son duo — Haragobinda Das (72) and Chandan Das (40) — were killed at their residence in Jafrabad.
A team of NHRC and NCW visited the trouble-torn areas of Murshidabad last weekend. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose also visited Murshidabad and Malda, where displaced people took refuge following the violence.
