Sunaina Roshan, daughter of actor-turned-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, has faced several major health challenges over the years, including cancer, fatty liver disease, and alcohol addiction. Her father, Rakesh Roshan, also battled early-stage throat cancer in 2018. Despite these hardships, the Roshan family has faced adversity together with strength and unity. In a recent interview, Sunaina shared that her father remains deeply protective of her. She also recalled the time she learned about his cancer diagnosis, just as she was coming out of alcohol rehabilitation.
During a conversation with News18 Showsha, Sunaina said, “Men have emotions, there’s nothing wrong with that. Men do need to cry as well, there’s no need to say that we haven’t cried. I have seen my dad cry so many times. When I was ill, and when he came to know I was pregnant for the first time. So, I have seen him having happy tears.”
When asked about her father Rakesh Roshan’s reaction to her illness, Sunaina revealed, “He was shattered. Every time, me and my family thought that it was the last illness, something new used to come up after 2-3 years.”
She added, “Today, even if I have a headache, I cannot tell my dad. It has to be hidden from him because he goes mad. He calls up 2-3 doctors to ask why I have got a headache. Because I have gone through so much, people think I am a pampered child. I am not.”
Even her father’s cancer diagnosis was difficult for Sunaina Roshan to cope with, especially since she had been advised to avoid stress after returning from rehab. “I had just come out of an alcohol rehab. We weren’t allowed to take any stress after that for 2-3 months. When I did a video call with him and he told me, I was shattered. My world came breaking down. I could not even know how to face him. When I did, it was something I never expected in life. A man who is so full of life, for him to go through cancer was tougher than me fighting all my illnesses. For such an outgoing person to be just in bed, it was very tough for me to see that side of him,” she shared.
