Jaat box office collection day 12: Sunny Deol’s actioner set to overtake original Gadar, outperforms Salman Khan’s Sikandar

Jaat box office collection day 12: Rebutting speculations that the blockbuster success of Gadar 2 was just a fluke that happened due to the enduring popularity of the original Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2000), Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has once again proven that he is a bona fide star, capable of drawing in the masses to cinema halls on his own. The ongoing impressive performance of his latest actioner Jaat, helmed by Gopichand Malineni, appears to be a testament to Sunny’s box office dominance, with the movie faring decently well on its 12th day in theatres as well.

On Monday, Jaat recorded an India nett collection of Rs 1.86 crore, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. Although this marked a 62.8 per cent dip compared to its Sunday earnings of Rs 5 crore, Jaat has performed better than Salman Khan’s Sikandar on the corresponding day. On its second Monday in theatres, Sikandar had minted only Rs 1.75 crore, despite debuting at Rs 26 crore against Jaat’s comparatively smaller Rs 9.5 crore. With this, Jaat’s total domestic nett collection has reached Rs 76.26 crore, just Rs 39 lakh shy of the 2000 Gadar’s lifetime earnings of Rs 76.65 crore. Jaat’s worldwide gross currently stands at Rs 98.7 crore.

During the day, the Sunny Deol-starrer recorded an overall occupancy of 10.36 per cent in the Hindi market. While the morning shows commenced at just 5.77 per cent, the rate improved as the day unfolded, albeit just marginally, and the afternoon shows recorded 10.01 per cent occupancy. Even as the evening shows saw 12.06 per cent occupancy, the night screenings registered 13.60 per cent.

Also starring Randeep Hooda, Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher and Vineet Kumar Singh, the movie is penned by director Gopichand Malineni himself. While Thaman S has crafted its music, the movie boasts cinematography by Rishi Punjabi and editing by Navin Nooli. In her review of the movie, SCREEN’s Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Sacrificed at the altar of all that gruesome blood-letting and mutilated bodies hanging from the rafters and savaged women forced to huddle together in this Sunny Deol-Randeep Hooda-starrer is coherence and plot.”
